Centennial Sculpture Garden
The Goddard Center is
honored to have been selected our Centennial Sculpture Garden to
have received, recognized, and funded as an official State of Oklahoma as an official Centennial Project. The Centennial Sculpture Garden has been established in honor of individuals who have made significant contributions to the arts and cultural opportunities in Ardmore and the state of Oklahoma. Their continuous support of the arts and art education contributed greatly to the high quality of life we enjoy in southern Oklahoma.
Construction began in October 2006 and was completed in October 2007.
The Garden space connects the Center’s main building with the Art Studios Building. Careful attention has been placed on creating a beautiful environment that will encourage visitors to come and enjoy the unique collection in a setting designed to educate and inspire. The Garden, designed by Ardmore native Jane Couch, builds on the existing downtown sculpture installations at Central Park, Veteran’s Square and the Chamber of Commerce. The site is within a short walking distance of our downtown merchants and has become a tourism destination.
The Goddard Center
now owns the Jesús Moroles sculpture, entitled
Disc Sun
and his
Barcelona Bench.
Jesús Moroles has
been established as one of the master sculptors of his
generation. His work has been included in over 130
one-person exhibitions and more than 200 group exhibitions.
